Using the addition method for an inconsistent system

Solve the system:

-4y = 5x + 7
4y = -5x + 12


If these equations are added, both variables are eliminated:

-4y = 5x + 7
4y = -5x + 12
0 =   19

Because this equation is inconsistent, the original equations are inconsistent. The solution set to the system is the empty set, Ø.
